Product Information

Despite the considerable need, there is currently no Australian made or designed product of this nature available today. We have produced a prototype which evolved with consultation from industry experts. It meets all specific Australian statutory regulations, and has the added bonus of providing currently unavailable comfort for occupants, required for staff retention in remote mining environments.

Each unit has the adaptability to increase in size to include additional living areas and bedrooms. With its innovative design the sky is the limit with what can be created, including double storey facilities. The standard unit includes a full size bedroom and full size bathroom. A generous living area, consisting of a kitchen, lounge room, communication centre and dining area, as well as ample storage areas and 2 split system air conditioning units for climate controlled comfort. Once commissioned, each unit has two external connection points; one for power and the other for water and sewerage.

The podd Unit

The custom built kitchen includes high quality moisture resistant materials, with a 50 litre Rheem hot water service or solar hot water system, self closing draws, additional storage, large pantry, built in Micro-wave oven and a 210 litre fridge freezer.

The generous full size bedroom includes a double bed, bed side table, storage cupboard and wardrobe with hanging space. IKEA flat pack furniture (formaldehyde free) was chosen due to its ability to compliment the podd™ modern look and to reiterate the concept of the one stop shop.

Within the bathroom, the fixtures were chosen from readily available, branded products ie; Caroma, allowing ease of replacement and servicing. The accessories include rattle-proof taps; water saving shower head; a low water use-age toilet; a shower screen constructed from toughened glass and a seamless molded shower back.

For increased comfort we have included a 3.2 kw high wall split climate control system, in the bedroom, and a 7.2kw unit in the kitchen. To aid regular servicing intervals, we have externally mounted a Mitsubishi compressor that allows tradesmen easy access to hydraulic hoses and fittings. The compact communication centre works remotely and can include a satellite dish, pay TV broadband, webcam, fax, flat panel LCD and laptop.

Competitive Advantage

Hydraulic lift roof

With the use of our hydraulic lifting system, we are able to raise the roof, therefore minimising the need for manual construction. This is time saving and makes us the only unit available with this innovative procedure.

Faster construction

With an estimated 5 hour construction time, this makes the podd units highly competitive, compared to other companies with a 5 day construction period.

Larger Footprint

With the option to triple the footprint from 28 sq metres up to 43 sq metres, this larger size makes the podd unit a standout for mining companies. Transportation is still 1/3 of the floor size with most units 14 sq metres to a maximum of 24 sq metres. These two factors make staff retention more achievable with larger and higher quality living facilities available for staff.

Heavy steel base & construction

The podd units are manufactured using a steel based shipping container. This in conjunction with the walls, ceilings and underside of floor structure being constructed with Austral exflam sandwich panel composite, makes for a sturdy  and strong unit able to withstand category 1 wind (Beaufort Scale). Also meets all BCA standards.

Effective fabrication techniques

With the twin skin roof this creates an air pocket to assist in the cooling and heating of the unit. Quick joining system of the sandwich panel cladding creates fast and effective joining for each panel, making installation times faster and more effective.

Weather and dust proof

The podd units are able to withstand higher ratings required for Australia's stringent conditions than other units currently available.

Internal fit out

The podd units will be delivered with all internal fixtures, including kitchen, air conditioning & bathroom. This reduces the construction phase when compared to competitors currently on the market.

Ownership & Manufacturing

100% Australian owned & operated and the design & manufacture will take place in rural Victoria. This creates much flow on positive financial effects for this region Australian ownership is attractive to many companies.

IP

Key developments include patent applications - both in Australia and Overseas, trademark so the ownership of the Intellectual Property remains Australian.

Sustainable Units

The podd will provide many mandatory environmental features, e.g. solar power, insulation, water recycling/storage, double glazing, green plumbing, LED lighting.

Emergency Relief

Units built specifically for crisis relief situations will contain emergency supplies.

Units connect

Flexible expansion including multi-storey constructions as required.

Recycling of materials

Construction is environmentally friendly (re-used shipping containers) and other recycled materials will be used during the manufacturing process.

Transportable by air, sea, rail, road to any location worldwide

Enhances ability to move units efficiently, more safely and cheaper compared to some other existing products ISO rated – requires no escort vehicle.
